Gone are the days when a child having a tutor is strictly for remediation purposes. The truth is, tutors are the most efficient means by which a student can either catch up or speed ahead.

With increasing class sizes, changes in curriculum and the rise in extra curricular activities, a tutor (or academic mentor) is becoming more popular with families and a part of their regular routines.

One on one tutoring has proven to be one of the greatest benefits that a parent or guardian can introduce to their children. Students who are quiet and struggling can easily get lost in the crowd.

In a tutoring session, with just the tutor (or a small peer group), a child is encouraged to ask questions that they don’t have an opportunity to do during formal classroom time. The more intimate, less threatening environment has proven to make children feel more comfortable. For students who are struggling academically, the personal attention and customization to their learning style makes them feel less pressure. The students who are excelling academically can further improve by gaining extra help and getting tips to further excel.

One of the most positive aspects of tutoring for all students is the relationship building that takes place not only with the tutors and students but with families alike who become actively involved and held accountable in the tutoring process, as a means of providing encouragement after a tutoring session ends and building on each small success.

Students who are tutored often demonstrate higher self-esteem and positive attitudes towards learning. How much more of a success story can we have than a student who actually LIKES to learn? Having a tutor can lead to an increase in confidence, the development of discipline and positive habits that can translate to all areas of life. Tutoring is definitely a win-win arrangement for everyone. It is my personal conviction that no student should be left behind or counted out.

Why not give it a try?
